Cleaning Hack of the Week: Homemade Glass Cleaner
When we're all spending more hours than usual inside, things we wouldn't normally notice can become immediately obvious. This week's cleaning hack is about cleaning windows. Now of course, there are plenty of commercially made window cleaners on the market. But here's a Pro Tip: avoid window cleaners that contain ammonia, especially if you plan to clean mirrors. The ammonia in many commonly available glass cleaners can be tremendously damaging to the silvered layer of mirrors. This can lead to flaking, discoloration, spots, and other non-repairable damage. But if you don't have any glass cleaner on hand, what then? In a spray bottle, mix 1/3 cup of rubbing alcohol with 1/4 cup white vinegar. For best results, fill the rest of the bottle with distilled water. (Tap water can have impurities that can lead to streaks). This mixture creates a quick-drying glass cleaner that can compete with any common brand. Plus it's safe to use on mirrors since it's ammonia free!
