DIY Interior Detailing For Your Car

Over the past few months during quarantine, many of us have been spending time cleaning up our living spaces…but has the car been neglected? With parks, beaches and outdoor dining now allowed in NJ again, in all likelihood we'll all be spending more time in our car. If quarantine hasn't been kind to your car interior, here are a few easy steps to get your car clean that will make going out far more pleasant.

1. Start by sorting out any trash/recycling. One bag for each should do the trick, so as to keep the two separate and recycle any items that can be recycled. Removing clutter from your car first and foremost will make the rest of the cleaning much easier.

2. Once all the large trash is taken care of, all console areas and control panels. Window cleaner (or homemade window cleaner from our cleaning hacks) is excellent for this use. Get a large, clean rag and go over all surfaces. Use a toothbrush for small, detail areas or put your rag over a pencil.

3. Some prefer to do this first, but we recommend it after dusting the dashboard, consoles etc. Once all surfaces are dusted and any smaller dirt has been dislodged, go over everything you can reach with a vacuum. Small indoor vacuums work well but if you have access to a shop vac that's even better.

4. Wipe leather seats down with leather conditioning wipes or leather conditioner on a rag. Cloth seats can be misted with a freshening spray if desired after vacuuming. Hang up an air freshener on your rearview mirror if desired, and voila! You’ve done a solid interior detail at a fraction of the cost and in the comfort of your own driveway!
